19 May 10K Lives Saved: Sofie’s Adoption Story
Sofie (formerly known as Spot) was the runt of the Pointer Litter, born in Arkansas in November 2015. Their mother was abandoned while pregnant in Arkansas and taken into foster care to have her puppies. A few months later, Sofie and 10 of her siblings made their way to Boston to be adopted through Last Hope K9 Rescue (more about her siblings and our litter meet-ups in our post next week).
Fun facts about Sofie:
- According to her DNA, Sofie’s genetic make-up contains at least seven different breeds; but none of them is a Pointer. Sofie is also not a Dalmatian despite her many spots.
- Sofie is a beautiful dog but hates to have her picture taken. She will look in any direction but not at the camera.
- When Sofie enjoys her food, she rubs her face on the carpet after eating.
- Sofie has been going to daycare since she first came to Boston. She loves seeing her human and doggy friends several times a week. At daycare, she is known as a member of the “grumpy women’s club.”
- Sofie will sleep in her parents’ bed when the family travels but never stays in their bed at home.
- Sofie’s favorite game is to search for treats hidden around her home. She will wait patiently, but in full alert, by the front door until all treats are distributed.
- Sofie has her own book Cheering for the Underdog: A Rescue Dog’s Quest. In her book, Sofie introduces you to some of her amazing friends and explains how they get to shelters, how volunteers and foster parents care for them, and what a perfect forever home looks like. She is calling (young) readers to action:
“Hello! I am Sofie. I am a pure mutt.
I don’t have pedigree. I am not a pure breed; so what!
I am spunky and loyal. I have a lot of zest.
My friends’ gloomy fate has inspired my quest:
No matter how old you are, let’s unite!
We need to support fairness, respect and the underdog fight.”
Sofie’s book is available for purchase, here. A portion of the book’s proceeds will go to Last Hope K9 Rescue.
