We are dedicated to saving abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs from high-kill shelters in Central Arkansas and beyond. Though our rescue efforts are focused in the Central Arkansas area, we also serve as a resource for local dog surrenders, shelters, and special rescue efforts in other areas. We don’t discriminate on the basis of age, pre-existing medical conditions, or breed, because every dog deserves to know love.
As the literal “last hope” of the dogs we serve, our southern fosters pull dogs and puppies from partner shelters in Arkansas. While in foster, each dog receives love, care, and medical treatment, then receives a health clearance and transports to New England. After a mandatory 48-hour quarantine stay and an additional health clearance, each dog is picked up and fostered by a northern foster family who serves as a gateway to his/her adoptive home, affectionately known as a FURever home.
From spay and neuter programs, the importance of preventatives, and anti-breed legislation, we actively work to inform the public about these important topics.
Since our establishment in March 2012, LHK9 has found FURever homes for over 12,000 dogs and we could not do this work without our amazing volunteers, donors, adopters, and partners!
Dogs Saved since March 2012
You will be saving TWO lives: the life of the dog you adopt and the life of the dog that takes its place in the shelter. Millions of loving companion dogs and puppies are euthanized every year simply because there is not enough room or resources to care for them. Every dog NOT purchased from a pet store or breeder helps to reduce the pet overpopulation problem.
There are plenty of dogs to choose from in rescue. They come in every age, shape, size, color, and breed/mix. You can often find purebreds among our adoptable dogs as well.
Each LHK9 dog gets a full vet exam, is spayed or neutered, and up-to-date on all vaccinations [Rabies, Bordatella, DAPP (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus)] and monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. In addition to medical care, we screen animals for specific temperaments and behaviors so that we can place them in the best possible home.
Our adoptions team will work with you to make that perfect match. An adopted dog can enrich your life in ways both big and small.
