10K Lives Saved: Ruby and Red’s Adoption Stories

Ruby and Red 1What’s better than adopting a dog? Adopting two, of course! This year Neishia and her family did just that, adding Ruby to the family almost 8 years after adopting Red.

In 2013, Neishia wanted to adopt a pup, but her toddler daughter was a little intimidated by large dogs. To help her gain some exposure, the family came to one of Last Hope K9 Rescue’s adoption events at Kimball Farm and met Red (formerly known as Pyr). Red was a 7-month-old Great Pyrenees mix – the whole family fell in love with this gentle giant and adopted Red. Red was house broken and naturally very well mannered, but also very protective. Over the years, Neishia and her family have worked with Red to ensure introductions to new people are made in the way he needs so he can enjoy company (and lots of belly rubs).

Red has been with the family since the kids were young and they have helped train him. He even poses for the first and last day of school pictures with the kids and is truly a part of the family. Red goes to daycare once a week where he is known for his “smile” and his love of smaller dogs convinced the family to pursue adopting a second pup.

In 2021, dog adoptions and events have looked a little different due to the pandemic. Instead of going toRuby and Red 2 a physical event, Neishia and her family attended one of LHK9’s virtual events this past March. It was here that they virtually met Ruby, a happy and playful puppy who was also an escape artist, known for her ability to climb and jump over baby gates as a small pup. She never wanted to be a troublemaker, she just always wanted to be in on the fun. Ruby was a happy puppy who would wag her tail so hard her whole little body would wiggle. Neisha and her family decided to adopt Ruby and she became their second dog.

Since coming home with Neishia and her family, Ruby has thrived, learning tricks at her obedience classes and becoming mostly house trained. She is a super active and fun puppy who still greets people with her full body wiggle. She has brought out so much energy in Red who loves having a little sister.
